“My job didn’t even exist when I was in school! We need to look to the future. With a strong foundation and a love of learning, our students will be prepared for the opportunities our modern economy has for them – and they’ll be ready to create the industries of the future.”

I believe we must elevate education in Hamilton County.

Elevate schools.

Every school in Hamilton County should be a high-performing school. Magnet schools and charter schools are great options for some students, but we shouldn’t rely on them to bring excellence to our districts. Every zoned school should be a school parents can trust to prepare their kids for the future.

Elevate students.

Every child in Hamilton County deserves a great education. Every child in Hamilton County matters and should be supported with programming and resources to reach their highest potential. We must provide equitable opportunities for students regardless of their learning differences or zip code.

Elevate planning.

Our leadership needs a common vision and plan for the future. From understanding facilities and staffing needs to creating a culture where our schools – and the students and teachers within them – are celebrated, our Central Office, School Board, County Commission, and County Mayor need to unite in support of equitable, excellent education for our children.

Elevate teachers.

We need highly effective teachers and principals in our schools, and our compensation strategy must align with our goals. From hiring new teachers to encouraging top-performers to stay in our classrooms, Hamilton County needs better salaries and more thoughtful benefits packages to recruit and retain the nation’s best teaching staff.

Elevate Hamilton County.

Hamilton County schools should be Chattanooga’s crowning achievement. Our industry, our waterfront, our innovation district, and our arts programs are worthless if our community's children cannot read and our graduates are unprepared to enter the workforce. Our schools should be the preferred educational option for our community – so good that our own county and city leaders choose to send their children to our schools.
